About the Author
Prior to studying creative writing after coming to live in Ashland, Oregon in 2002, I wrote research and treatment materials about behavioral methods of healing. I’m particularly interested in how the wisdom of the body to heal itself is often overlooked in our consumer oriented rush to take the most recently advertized medication. At Southern Oregon University Extended Campus, in a writing class with Molly Tinsley, my interest turned from short story to memoir. Then I was bitten by the writing-for-theater bug. In a workshop, a brief monologue I’d written was acted out by a young actor and I felt a chill go straight up my spine. “I can do this!” I heard myself saying. After a friend told me the story of Marion Woodman’s astonishing recovery from cancer, I read Bone, Dying Into Life and saw the possibilities for a play. In 2006, at seminar in San Francisco, I asked Marion Woodman’s permission to use her book. She said “Give it a try.” There’s more to the story, a lot more, but that was the beginning.
